OEW-IMPULSE pumps are specially designed to control ground water levels. The construction of these pumps is called a double acting piston pump and these types of pumps have quit a lot of advantage in the dewatering process. (Low Running Cost, Reliability, Spares & Service Friendly). Controlling ground water level is a continuous process during the time you need a (temporary) change in the level. Groundwater level control is many times necessary, for construction works, tunnelling, and small or large building projects, where ground water gives problems on the jobsite. OEW-IMPULSE pumps are completely designed for vacuum dewatering and have a lot of advantages as compared to other pumps (centrifugal).

First we have to know some facts for our understanding:

Dewatering is always a continuous process of transferring water from area A to area B. Dewatering projects are normally always running 24 hours a day and that too far long periods of time say months together!!

Unexpected change in groundwater level during construction works can destroy the complete construction, for example; a basements can completely come out of the ground and will float on the groundwater when the groundwater level is coming up and the construction is not finished!. As soon as we have to use pumps for transferring this flow, it is absolutely important that these pumps are reliable and ask for minimum maintenance. Groundwater flows are not equal w.r.t. the capacity of flow and have quite a lot of natural vagaries which have to be taken care off.

Dewatering is about controlling ground water, which means "FIGHTING" against NATURE!!

What are the important technical aspects for a OEW-IMPULSE dewatering pump.

    • Pump must always run, and must not get damaged during times when there is no water to transfer. These pumps have to run dry without any problem.
    • Pump has to give a good vacuum (9+ mtr) for bringing up the ground water to the pump.
    • The pump is only suitable in combination with drain or vertical filters (well points).
    • Vacuum dewatering is only for projects which are not lower than 8.5 mtr below surface where we can place the pump. (If we have to go deeper we have to use a “more step” dewatering. (Refer Photograph 1.enclosed)
    • Pumps has to run economically as these pumps may run for many weeks, months continuously
    • These pumps have approx 60-70 piston reciprocatory cycles per minute. This low rotation ensures a more continuous discharge of water and is also able to maintain vacuum of 9 + mtrs.
    • The working is based in two pistons with leather collars, running in stainless steel liners. While the collar is made out of a natural product (leather), the pump can, without any damage, run dry for indefinite time. The leather will dry-up and shrink a bit after all the water is out of the pump house (+100 hours of complete dry running), as soon as there is liquid again, the leather will swell and give  again the perfect sealing in the cylinder.
    • The construction of the IP-series is designed to run for really long periods without maintenance. The pump is developed in the Netherlands, a European Country mostly under the sea level, and worldwide famous for lots of waterworks and pumping knowledge.

The OEW IP-Series:-
Capacity From 45 till 90 m3/h (45.000 till 90.000 litre per hour)
Vacuum 9.2 mtr ( 27 ft) Under pressure
Delivery Discharge IP 175 – 20 mtr – 7.5 Kw Electric Motor
  IP 160- 20 Mtr – 5.5 KW Electric Motor
IP 160-30 mtr- 7.5 KW Electric Motor (Fitted with high pressure valve)
IP 140-40 mtr- 7.5 KW Electric Motor (Fitted with high pressure valve)

Can be run by diesel engines?

The entire pump & electric motor /Diesel engine Assly can be fitted on skids/ structures/ sound proof canopies.

SALIENT FEATURES

The OEW-IMPULSE IP-series is build for well point dewatering purposes. The pumps are easy to handle, and don’t need a lot of maintenance during running. Those pumps can run dry and will hold the vacuum in the system.

Instead of a centrifugal, which can not create a vacuum on it’s own. (only the self priming types, but you have to fill up the pump house completely with water, or make it vacuum assisted). The OEW-IMPULSE IP series is a double acting piston pump with a great reliability and can do it’s work without the need of inspection 4 times a day according to flow of water.

Fuel consuming for the IP 175 (90 m3/h) approx 2 liter / hour!

  • In a typical Dutch operation, one maintenance person is signally responsible for 30 to 40 installations. He visits a pump only once a week to fill diesel in the diesel engine and to carry out inspection, put oil in gear box (if required), carry out minor maintenance (if required)
  • The leather seals & gland packing are the only main consumables
  • In case the filter in the well points are good, the life of the consumables greatly improve.
  • Reverse dewatering is possible !!! to maintain water levels out side the dry area.
  • When the pump runs dry, it creates vacuum in the suction line & so draws ground water.

The running costs in terms of spares used ‘ Life of pump (15-20 years) & diesel consumed in much better than centrifugal pumps.
